Project Details

  • Our ability and experience allows us to undertake complex landscape projects such as that illustrated. Constructed on a steep south facing slope which had been originally terraced to accommodate a swimming pool (outer wall was already constructed) and remote from any reasonable access, this was a complex constructional challenge.
  • There were no formal plans, however by working closely with the clients we produced a superb terraced patio, pond, path and border area with stepped access at two points.
  • The retaining wall represents a major construction being a cantilever wall consisting of a mass concrete base and wall with complex re-enforcing steel in both base and wall. The steel work in the wall also includes continuous stainless steel horizontal tie wires to increase the torsional strength of the curve around the existing tree. On excavating the site for this retaining wall an active spring was discovered so additional work was required to construct a drainage sump under the foundation of the wall and further additional drainage was installed behind the wall. The unstable nature of the area behind the wall also meant the steps were engineered on site and contain two large RSJ’s tied to a re-enforced concrete ‘toe’ to prevent any forward movement created by hydrostatic pressure.
  • With projects like this our size, ability and experience are of paramount importance
